The Do-It-Yourself Fixing of a Clogged Toilet

Everybody is aware of the feeling when a toilet gets clogged, especially when there are visitors around.

It usually happens in the least time expected. Really a disgusting sight to see when there is still soiled toilet paper and it just won't drain when you flush it. The water is gone but the cluster of toilet paper just won't go down. Having a bunged toilet is just so unpleasant. But you can fix the clogged toilet without hiring a Plumbers in Rockville Centre to do that. You can try simple methods to make your toilet work again. There are few techniques to successfully fix your toilet.

The first thing to remember is NOT to flush the clogged toilet several times. The more you flush it; more water will be collected in the bowl. And worse, it might just cause it to overflow. So don't flush the bunged bowl several times. Flush once and if it doesn't work then there must have been some problem.

Put on rubber gloves first before getting into action. Repairing your toilet is unsanitary and gloves are needed for germ protection. Carpet the toilet with old newspapers. Lay them near the bowl where you will be working. This will be helpful if your bowl overflows. At least the floor will not directly be soaked with the water coming out of the bowl.

The next thing to do is to pour cold water on the drain of the bowl. Stand up and pour the bucket of cold water at chest level in order to get some pressure on it. But do not hastily empty the bucket of cold tap water into the drain. If the clog is not resolved, the water will stay in the bowl. Do not pour too much just waist level of the bowl would be enough if there is a need for you to use the toilet plunger. That is to avoid spills and splashes when you begin plunging.

Close the water supply and get the toilet plunger. The plunger needs to be totally submerged so if there's not much water in the bowl, add just enough water for that. The mouth of the toilet plunger should entirely seal the bowl's hole. Then start plunging, firm and fast. When successful with the use of a plunger, the water will drain immediately.

But if the attempt doesn't work, another technique may be done. Pour hot water, but not boiling, into the bowl. Very hot water is not preferred because it may cause the porcelain bowl to get cracked. Add several drops of liquid dishwashing soap into the bowl and let that sit for a while. Then attempt plunging again. This technique may get rid of the clog eventually.

If these techniques didn't work, the use of chemical drain cleaner may be the last technique you can do. If a failure still occurs, then an expert plumber should be hired to get the clogged toilet fixed. Fixing clogged toilets can be a do-it-yourself job but if the techniques still didn't work, might as well seek help from a professional. Make sure to turn on the water supply before flushing a successfully fixed toilet.
