If you read our article on leather grades, you will know about the different quality grades of leather. Now, we'll take a closer look at the two best grades, full grain leather and top grain leather. It's important to know that not every leather grade is the same, and they can be completely different in appearance, feel, and durability. In general, grain leather can be divided into three categories: aniline, hemilidine, and colored/protected.

This is the most natural type of leather and is therefore known as pure aniline or full aniline. It is dyed in vats with soluble dyes, so that the color runs through the leather, giving it a rich and rich color. In order to maintain the natural feel and appearance of leather, no protective coating or surface pigmentation is used. In addition, the leather retains its natural markings and textures, which contribute to the authenticity of the leather. However, lack of treatment may make the leather more susceptible to scratches, staining or discoloration, and some color changes may occur on the leather surface.

Some aniline leather is polished or polished to form an open nap; The result is called niuba leather. These leathers are the softest on the market. They feel beautiful and almost velvety. However, they are also the most likely to fade or stain due to open napping.

First thing to do: In this case, "half" is actually a misnomer because it doesn't mean part. Semi-aniline leather is more appropriately named aniline plus pigment because of the way it is made. The process begins in the same way as aniline leather. However, although full aniline treatment stops after dyeing, semiline leather requires further treatment. Therefore, after the leather is stained with aniline, a light protective coating is applied to the top of the leather, which may contain some additional pigmentation to ensure consistency of color. Due to the tinted coating, some imperfections will be hidden, leaving a more uniform surface texture. Other finishes can then be applied to the leather by hand or machine (such as antique looks or exotic leather optics). Finally, a clear protective coating is applied to make the leather stain resistant and sun resistant. The gloss of this coating can be adjusted to matte or gloss finish.

Like the other two types above, it is dyed all the way through the leather. However, the surface is then coated with a heavy protective finish, which includes pigmentation. Remove any type of blemishes or blemishes by polishing or sanding and then embossing with artificial particles. At the cost of deep and rich color and luxurious feeling, colored leather is sprayed to make it more durable. As a result, colored leather is the most unnatural grainy leather, but also the most durable.

You need to remember that all three types of leather are very good leather because they are grain leather, not double leather. So, it really comes down to personal preference. If you care more about the authenticity and beauty of natural leather, you should choose full aniline or semi-aniline. If durability and cost are your main concerns, but you still want high-quality leather, protected leather is for you. The larger the surface area (bags, sofas, etc.), the more important it is to understand grain leather when trying to pick the right leather for your needs.
