Synthesis and Application of Amino Silicone Oils

Amino silicone oil usually connected to the silane coupling agent containing amino. The side chain of it increases the surface polarity and reactivity of the modified silicone oil.

Amino silicone oil, usually refers to the structure of organosiloxane polymer connected to the silane coupling agent containing amino, common coupling agents are 602 (N-β-(aminoethyl)-γ-aminopropylmethyldimethoxysilane ), 902 (γ-aminopropyl Methylenedioxy silane), the side chain of the amino group increases the surface polarity and reactivity of the modified silicone oil, which greatly improves the water emulsification of the silicone oil and the anchoring of the fabric, and enhances the softness, washability and emulsion stability of the silicone oil.

Basic synthesis of amino silicone oils

An octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane is selected for ring-opening polymerisation with a corresponding silane coupling agent in the presence of an alkali catalyst to produce a stable amino silicone oil after a balancing reaction.

Points of note for amino silicone oils

The reaction temperature should be set according to the type of alkali catalyst chosen. If potassium hydroxide is used, the temperature can be controlled at 130°C-140°C. After the reaction is completed, silyl phosphate or acetic acid needs to be added to neutralise the reaction.

Application of amino silicone oil

The higher the ammonia value, the higher the polarity, the better the emulsification, the smaller the amount of emulsifier available for emulsification, the better the emulsion stability, the more anchoring points on the textile fabric, good adsorption, the flexibility of the silicone chain is more evident in the feel of the fabric, the lower the ammonia value, the more emulsifier needed for emulsification, the less anchoring points on the fabric The flexibility effect is not obvious but the slip effect of the large silicone chains is more prominent. For amino silicone oil is more often used in cellulose fabrics, because the polar groups on the cellulose fibres are more conducive to the adsorption of amino, chemical fabrics due to the surface polar groups less, the internal structure is more dense crystallinity is higher, but need to be more compatible with its structure of the polymer and hydrophilic permeability of better finishing agents to deal with in order to get a better application of the feel.
