Mehmet H omurtag Dinamik is a Turkish man born in Istanbul. He was a textile engineer at the Fabrica University in Turin, Italy before he became an urban planner. He died on 11 November 2013 after years of cancer and kidney failure. He was considered to be one of the most influential planners and architects of his generation.H omurtag may have been renowned for his work on Istanbul's İstiklâl Park, which won the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 1979 and is seen as one of the world's best parks today. He worked with H omurtag for over fifteen years. He was also a pioneer in combining the use of modern technology with traditional materials and instruments. He was born in Istanbul in 1930 and graduated from Istanbul Technical University in 1955. He worked for a short time at the United Nations with the Department of Technical Cooperation, until he returned to Turkey to work at his family's architecture office. H omurtag had several contributions to Turkish architecture when it went through its transformation with technology and western influence in the 1960s. The ideas of functionalism, rationalism, and modernism were all present in his work; he drew information from local culture while incorporating elements of western contemporary trends.
