So the ongoing saga of who will be named as John Terrys succe sor as England captain.Caretaker manager Stuart Pearce has named Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker as captain Jorge Alfaro Jersey , to many peoples surprise including myself. I am surprised by this decision as I and many others thought that there were far more suitable candidates for the role, including the likes of Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney and the stand out favourite Steven Gerrard.I can see maybe why Pearce picked Parker as captain, he was voted as the Football writers player of the year for the 2010-2011 season in which he captained relegated West ham, and was recently voted Englands player of the year by fans on Tuesday. He does pose some qualities an England captain needs, he always gets stuck in and will stand up and be counted and not shy away from the action unlike some previous captains (Beckham and Owen Nick Wittgren Jersey to name a couple). Having only 10 caps since Blank Jersey his debut in 2003 (7 of which came in 2011) and no major tournament experience, personally I think he was a wrong choice.I feel that what he does as a player doesnt really set the world alight, he simply wins back the ball from opposition and then lays off a 5 yard pa s. He could not take a came by the scruff of the neck and push forward to get that winning goal. I am not here to simply criticise Parker, he is good at what he does but then so are many others who play that defensive midfield position (which is over-hyped).I thought that Gerrard being Kyle Barraclough Jersey given the captaincy was a fore gone conclusion. He has captained Liverpool for many years inspiring them to hard fought victories (mostly notably their champions league triumph and the 2006 f.a cup dubbed the Gerrard final). Not only that he has been vice captain for a while and captained England on numerous occasions, including the 2010 World Cup, youd think he would be the obvious choice.Maybe the reason for Gerrard not being picked is because of him recently stating that he will think about retiring from international football after Euro 2012, so perhaps the F.A want someone who will be more long term? (although Parker is 31 now)Either way this decision is Justin Bour Jersey a joke!! Would love to hear other views on this.
